2020 ROADS TO RESPECT™ CONFERENCE
Our 2020 Annual Roads to Respect™ Conference addressed “PRIORITIES: Helping Kids Develop Empathy, Moral Character, Healthy Relationships, and Social Responsibility.” Dr. Richard Weissbourd, Founder and Director of the “Making Caring Common” Project at Harvard University, provided research-based strategies for fostering children’s moral character, ethical values, concern for others, and social responsibility. Shane Koyczan, a poet, artist, and true “master of the spoken word,” gave a moving presentation that illustrated the impacts of bullying on children, and the ways in which our personal experiences in interactions with others, growing up and in adulthood, shape our lives. Dr. Emma Adam, Ph.D., Professor of Education and Social Policy, Psychology and Psychiatry at Northwestern University, presented her extensive research and findings on “Adolescent Stress: Sources and Solutions.” Our Los Angeles City Attorney, Mike Feuer, presented the findings of his Blue Ribbon Commission on School Safety, including strategies and policies schools can adopt to enhance the safety of students and school personnel.
