2020 CONFERENCE FOR COACHES
On March 6, 2020 The Rape Foundation’s Men’s Leadership Council (MLC) hosted our fourth annual Conference for Coaches focusing on the critical role coaches have in shaping the values, moral character, and relationship skills of young athletes while, at the same time, working under intense pressure to win from their schools, alumni, parents, and communities of support. The Conference gives coaches effective strategies and tools for fostering empathy, respect, and social responsibility; empowering youth to successfully navigate life’s challenges; and creating a positive team culture. JUDD APATOW brought humor and illuminating stories about his experiences “coaching” actors and others in his roles as a Director and a Producer. CURTIS CONWAY, former NFL player and Broadcaster, gave many examples of how coaches have impacted his life, both as a young boy and as a professional football player. Our featured educators/trainers, JOE EHRMANN and JODY REDMAN, co-founders of INSIDEOUT INITIATIVE, gave coaches tools for transforming the current “win-at-all costs” sports culture to a culture that defines and promotes sports as a human growth experience. 290 coaches from schools throughout Southern California attended. Conference sponsors included The Los Angeles Chargers, UCLA Health, The Angell Foundation, LA84, Positive Coaching Alliance, CIF LA City Section and CIF Southern Section. The MLC sponsors educational initiatives for men and boys that build character and foster social responsibility.
