2019 CONFERENCE FOR COACHES
On February 23, 2019, The Rape Foundation’s Men’s Leadership Council (MLC) hosted its third annual Conference for Coaches focusing on the critical role coaches have in shaping the values, moral character, and relationship skills of young athletes while at the same time, working under intense pressure to win from their schools, alumni, parents, and communities of support. The Conference gives coaches tools for fostering empathy, social responsibility, and moral courage. Nationally recognized speakers including Sterling K Brown, Ann Meyers Drysdale and Marcellus Wiley, shared personal experiences illustrating how their coaches had impacted their lives. Our featured trainers were Joe Ehrmann’s INSIDEOUT COACHING Co-founder Jody Redman and Russ Reetz who gave coaches tools for transforming the current “win-at-all costs” sports culture to a culture that defines and promotes sports as a human growth experience. 280 coaches from schools across Southern California attended. The MLC sponsors educational initiatives for men and boys that build character and foster social responsibility. Conference Sponsors included The Los Angeles Chargers, UCLA Health, LAFC, Los Angeles Lakers, The Angell Foundation, Los Angeles Clippers, LA84 and the Positive Coaching Alliance.
